Museo Militar

This military museum, established in 1988, lies within the Almeida quarter of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and is amongst the best cartography research centres in the Canaries. Presenting an impressive range of armaments and objects collected from the Islands’ military history, the museum’s highlight is the famous ‘Tigre’ canon which, according to tradition, injured Admiral Horacio Nelson during his failed attempt to occupy Tenerife on July 25th 1797, resulting in the amputation of his right arm.

The exhibit includes the uniforms and other personal items of respected military personnel, models of military constructions, collections of arms used by the Guanches and the Spanish during the confrontations throughout the conquest of Tenerife at the end of the XV century, as well as various oil paintings and water colours by renowned Canary artists.
